Macpherson of Strathmaisie, [note] with whom the translator of Ossian
resided for some time, is said to have been not only an excellent Gaelic scholar, but a poet of no
small reputation. Several of his pieces are to be found in a collection published by Gillies Perth, 1796. They possess a considerable degree of merit; are
light, free, and spirited.
